The UCSF LGBT Resource Center, founded in 1998, provides support, education, and advocacy to our campus and medical center communities. With the help of our devoted volunteer students, staff, faculty, and trainees, we are able to provide outstanding programs that educate and improve the campus climate for our community. Additionally, our school has become nationally recognized for our work in providing education and culturally competent care for the LGBTQIA+ community. Our previous institutional funders have included The California Endowment, The California Wellness Foundation, Bay Area Physicians for Human Rights, and the American Cancer Society.

One of our funds, The Samuel Hughes Fund, was created in memory of Samuel C. Hughes, MD, who came to UCSF in 1980 and died in 2008 at 61. Sam was a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend to thousands of students and colleague, as well as a leading international figure in obsterical anesthesia. At a time when it was very unusual to be out in medicine, Sam was unafraid to be known as gay, and supported a wide variety of LGBTQIA+ causes on- and off-campus. In his memory, friends and colleagues have created a special fund to support projects benefiting LGBTQIA+ students at UCSF.

With your support, we will be able to continue and expand our work. Every contribution makes a difference! Please feel free to contact [email protected] about ways you can continue to help support our work.
